Remembrance Day.

In 2014 the UK remembered the start of World War one as the 100 year anniversary arrived.

There were events and displays throughout the country and Willington Parish Council determined to have a memorial board erected in the station garden area in the centre of the village.

Local Artist Claire Norton painted the ‘shadow figures’ mural, that was used extensively by the BBC during the events, on to the  large board.

The board was donated by the  Willington Action Group, and the project was the suggestion of  Bill Harding in his Parish Councillor role.

The board was designed to allow people to fasten their own messages and memorials on to it to make it a real piece of history and a part of the community.

The idea was a great success and the board was filled with a large number of personal remembrance messages and notes.
